Single and Double Quotation Marks

Answers

  1. “I’m here with the quarterback who said, ‘There are no small victories,’ but,” turning to the quarterback, the reporter asked, “this wasn’t a small victory, was it?”
  2. “Well, I have to give credit to my team who always reminds me, ‘Never give up,’” said the quarterback.
  3. “Sure, they tell you not to give up, but what is it you say to them to keep them motivated?  It goes something like, ‘Keep your head up,’ I believe,” the reporter probed.
  4. “I tell them, ‘Keep your eye on the ball,’ but like I said, they follow through with that and everything the coach says to help us.  I can’t take credit for any of it.  It’s really a team effort,” replied the quarterback.
  5. “Well, you’re modest.  Tell your fans out there what you meant during half time when you said, ‘It’s now or never,” the reporter requested.
  6. “All I meant was to tell the team, ‘You’d better be in it to win it,’ and if they weren’t, next season, they could watch from the bench,” explained the quarterback.
  7. “It seems like saying, ‘Be in it to win it,’ scared them into playing better.  What do you think about that?” asked the reporter.
  8. “I don’t think so,” replied the quarterback.  “The coach’s motivation all season saying things like, ‘Learn from your mistakes,’ and ‘Always play your best,’ help more than scare tactics.  We’re trying to keep everyone positive,” replied the quarterback.
  9. “Well, whether it was the coaches words to ‘Learn from your mistakes,’ or the positive attitudes of your teammates, it certainly paid off for you.  Congratulations!” exclaimed the reporter.
  10. The quarterback repeated, “Thanks, but like I said, before, ‘It’s really a team effort.’”
